Privacy Policy

The short version

NotchWise keeps your data on your Mac. We don't collect it, send it anywhere, or sell it. There are no analytics, no tracking, no cookies, and no telemetry.

What's stored and where

Your flashcards, review history, scheduling data, and preferences live in a local SQLite database on your Mac. This file sits in your Application Support directory and is only accessible to NotchWise and your macOS user account.

Network access

NotchWise doesn't phone home. Two optional features do use the network:

  • AnkiConnect sync: Talks to a locally running Anki instance over localhost (127.0.0.1). No data leaves your machine.
  • AI card suggestions: If you choose to use the Claude API for card generation, your card text is sent to Anthropic's servers. This is opt-in and requires your own API key. Nothing is sent without you triggering it.

System permissions

NotchWise may ask for two macOS permissions:

  • Accessibility: Needed for global keyboard shortcuts and idle detection when other apps are in the foreground.
  • Screen Recording: Used only to detect screen sharing (Zoom, Teams, etc.) so your flashcards auto-hide during calls. NotchWise doesn't record or capture your screen.

Third-party services

There are no analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs in NotchWise. No Google, no Facebook, no Mixpanel. Nothing.

Children's privacy

NotchWise doesn't collect information from anyone, so this is inherently satisfied for users of all ages.
